DUI Wrong-Way Unlicensed Driver Arrested 12 Beers Deep In Stafford: Sheriff

A 34-year-old Fredericksburg was arrested after authorities learned he'd had 12 beers before driving from Washington DC to Stafford County on Friday, May 3, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies responding to a drunk driver complaint found Jose Benitez-Benavides operating a Ford in going south in the northbound lanes of Richmond Highway near Landmark Drive around 10:40 p.m. Friday night, the Stafford County sheriff's office said.

Benavides had clear signs of intoxication, an open Modelo in the center console, authorities said. He also admitted to consuming 12 beers before driving from DC, and had no driver’s license. 

He was charged with driving under the influence, drinking while driving, failure to drive on the right side of the road, and driving without a license. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $3,000 secured bond.
